The Habits of My Hijabs

I have assorted a generous collection of hijabs over the years, and one thing I’ve noticed is they all have their own distinct personalities. Some wrap around like the arms of your best friend, soft and comforting. Some are loud and flamboyant. Some are more subtle. Some hijabs are a pain to have around, high maintenance maharanis, always requiring adjusting and fixing and never staying put. Some are a complete joy to wear, completely flexible, never pulling at the jaw, or gaping at random areas.

Some have sentimental value, like the one my friend borrowed from me when she took her shahada. The colors matched her outfit perfectly and I always smile whenever I wear it.

A few are made of somewhat coarse material, but what they lack in refinement they make up for in sheer beauty.

Some I take leave of with a sigh of relief, others I never want to stop wearing. A few fall through the cracks, and I stumble upon them waiting patiently for me to discover them again after weeks or months. Others sit on top of the pile, always calling to me loudly because I’ve fallen into a well-worn groove of wearing three or four hijabs that always work.

Some are great for working out in, some are perfect for parties, some are subtle and refined for everyday work wear, and some are just plain…weird.

Regardless, I kinda love them all. A lot.

Very inspiring! Loved It! Do you maybe have some tips or advice on what kind of hijabs to wear to work and in what styles?

    Dear sister,

I would like to submit an article which I wrote recently reflecting my love for a healthy and spiritual lifestyle. I am an avid exerciser and have an unexplainable depth of love for my Dear Lord and hence find a combination of the two allows me to have an almost perfect day.

I frequently like to express myself through situations and scenarios which are presented my way. For example an article was written in response to a dinner I attended. During this dinner a friend of mine fainted all of a sudden and narrowly escaped hitting her head on a table hence preventing a serious head injury. Upon questioning her and having grave concern for her health (me being a pharmacist), I ascertained that she skips breakfast, sleeps at 1.00am and has a lack of connection with God. I immediately grabbed this opportunity and decided that i would go home and produce a flyer for the sisters in my community flyer emphasising the importance of a healthy/spirtual lifestyle. I feel that dawah is a duty on every muslim and I realise Allah promises great reward for it’s carrier, and the Hadith of the Prophet Salla Allahu Alyhi Wasalam confirms the reward as he said: “For Allah to guide one man through you is better for you than all that the sun has shined over”. So with this in mind, I would like to submit this article in the hope that even if one sister follows and implements the humble advice in this flyer, then my job has been done!

Please kindly send me your email so I may forward the article.

    Regards
    Rehana
